All products must incorporate a version number request and a version number reply into the
application layer. This will enable the factory and service equipment to verify the version number and
product type of each device for every product.
The Version Number Request will have one data byte, which is the requestor’s address. This enables
the receiver to respond to the correct device.
The Version Number Reply will have four data bytes. The first data byte will be the requestee’s
address. The requestor will then know which device is replying. Data byte 2 will be the product
identifier (specified in the product application layer). The next two data bytes will be the encoded
version number. Table 7 and 8 are an example of a version number request and version number
reply sequence. For this example, please assume the following:
