Is detection performance affected by
clothing?
Is there an easy way to verify sensor
operation?
Performance is slightly affected.
The MP Motion Sensor detects the difference between the ambient temper-
ature and the surface temperature of a person that enters the sensor detec-
tion area; thus detection performance is slightly affected by the condition of
the person and the ambient temperature. The human body emits more
energy in the summer when people tend to wear clothing that exposes
more of the body than in the winter, when
only the face and hands may be exposed.
However, actual detection performance is
better in the winter because the lower
ambient temperature has a greater effect
on performance than the presence of more
clothing. In general, changes in the ambi-
ent temperature are of greater concern
than clothing.
Connect the sensor as shown here to have an LED illumi-
nate when the sensor detects a person.
