5.3.2 Using an MCU for the Control Circuitry

Figure 7 illustrates MCU control circuitry, for which ZiLOG recommends its
Z86E08 or Z86C08 MCUs. The output signal from the PIR AmpliÞer Block con-
nects to the MCUÕs noninverted comparator input. A software-controlled analog-
to-digital conversion processes the analog signal to control the processing of the
userÕs application. The Upper and Lower Thresholds are also set under software
control. The MCU communicates with the host system via the serial interface. A
relay is connected as an open- and closed-loop control.
