If it is less, the counter is incremented. If it is, or has now become, equal to the
mode change requirement then the mode is changed to ID configuration mode
(if the key is pressed) or to normal mode (if it isn’t). This arrangement ensures
that the mode defaults automatically to normal if the key remains not pressed
for three seconds (the time it takes the counter to reach the mode change
number — 224 for the EY16).
