The MAX5387 EV kit software GUI shown in Figure 1 is
a Windows program that provides a convenient means
to control two MAX5387 dual potentiometers. Use the
mouse or press the Tab key to navigate through the GUI
controls. The correct SMBusK/I
generated to update the MAX5387 internal memory reg-
isters when any of these controls are executed.
The EV kit software features window tabs to select and
control two MAX5387 (U1_MAX5387, U2_MAX5387)
dual on-board digital potentiometers and two unpopu-
lated MAX5392 (U3_MAX5392, U4_MAX5392) digital
potentiometers. Status indicators (Status1 and Devices
Found) are available to indicate that the EV kit is opera-
tional and to display the total number of valid MAX5387
and MAX5392 devices populated on the EV kit. The
SMBus is a trademark of Intel Corp.

Additional software features can be evaluated by using
the pulldown menu bar. The software has a demo mode
that is available by selecting the Options | Demo Mode
menu item. When in demo mode, all software communi-
cation to the EV kit hardware is disabled and most of the
software’s GUI is functional. This feature enables a user
to evaluate the software without hardware connectivity.
By default, the EV kit software configures the MINIQUSB+
interface board’s 2-wire communication speed to 400kHz.
The speed can be reduced to 100kHz, if required, by
selecting the Options | 2-Wire Speed | 100kHz menu
item. This configuration could be required if slower
2-wire devices are connected to the EV kit’s SCL and
SDA J1 header.
