linear regulator (U2) provides the required +3.3V for the
optical isolation at the PSE side.
The IC controls the -54V DC power to the output port by
regulating the port’s current. The current is fed to the
J2 Ethernet output port’s RJ45 output module. An IEEE
802.3af/at-compliant PD connects to the Ethernet out-
put port (J2) on the EV kit. The PD can be located up
to 350ft from the EV kit when connected with a twisted
4-pair Ethernet cable. The 10/100/1000BASE-TX mag-
netic module (J2) is decoupled to the EV kit’s chassis
ground internally. The EV kit’s isolated chassis ground
(Chassis_GND) PCB pad connects to the network system
ground. Note that the 10/100/1000BASE-TX magnetic
output module RJ45 jack (J2) is rated for up to 700mA of

C-compatible 2-wire interface when the optically

The EV kit features configurable operational modes,
PD detection (including legacy PD detection), PD
classification, overcurrent protection, current foldback,
undervoltage/overvoltage protection (+28.5V, +62.5V

monitoring, high-power Class 5 mode operation, and
port current information through the I
Class 5 overcurrent and current-limit protection can be
reconfigured through jumpers or can be programmed
through the software.
The IC starts up in automatic operation mode and
pushbutton switch SW1 can be used to reset the IC or
enter shutdown mode. Semiautomatic and manual modes
can only be accessed through their respective register
using the software’s high-level Configuration window.
