2.13. Companding
The ProSLIC supports both µ-255 Law and A-Law
companding formats in addition to linear data. These 8-
bit companding schemes follow a segmented curve
formatted as sign bit, three chord bits, and four step bits.
µ-255 Law is more commonly used in North America
and Japan, while A-Law is primarily used in Europe.
Data format is selected via the PCMF register. Tables
34 and 35 define the µ-Law and A-Law encoding
formats.
