The goal of NEC Electronics' new USB Controller Series is to provide “Easy-to-Use
Ecologically-Friendly Solutions" to designers and end users by reducing power
consumption and board size through advanced power management techniques and
integration.

Series
To satisfy the rapidly growing need to add USB ports to embedded systems, for
functions such as system maintenance and software updates, NEC Electronics
created the μPD720150. The μPD720150 offers a simple (non-PCI) 16-bit bus
interface so that designers can quickly and easily add a USB port without
significant redesign. The μPD720150, part of NEC’s ECOUSB series of products,
uses advanced internal power management techniques. This, combined with
integration of an internal voltage regulator for its core logic, and on-chip USB
terminating resistors, helps developers add USB ports to any embedded system
in a simple and ecologically-friendly manner.
