Troubleshooting
An SE-series relay cannot be used with a circuit containing thyristors,
rectifiers, or VVVF inverters, because these elements can change
the output waveform to the point that the relay will malfunction. The
diagram below shows the basic operation of an SET Current Con-
verter. The input current is converted to a DC current suitable for the
SE-series relay by 3-phase full wave rectification and the resistors.

Checklist After Connection and Before Starting Motor
Relay operates before the motor starting time has
elapsed. (OPEN indicator)
Relay operates after the motor starting time has
elapsed. (OC indicator)
Motor circuit is not tripped when the relay operates
following the depression of the test button.
Relay doesn’t operate properly under light loads.
Check the Current Converter for the proper number of
conductor runs through holes and the proper direction.
Check the Current Converter and Motor Protective Relay
for connection with proper polarity.
Check the phase-sequence of 3-phase voltage (for 3E
relays).

Test Operation
Corrective action
Press the test button (for
longer than the set time).
Does the relay
operate?
The output voltage is composed of a normal three-phase component
and open-phase or imbalance components, so it is made up of both
DC and AC components.
