I/O architectures
Local I/O
The Quantum automation platform provides local I/O management for control
systems that are wired on the main control cabinet.
The local I/O can comprise a maximum of 14 modules in the primary rack, including
the CPU module
These local I/O can be extended on a second rack (secondary rack) by using a
140 XBE 100 00
If required, system modules can be installed in the local rack.
Available optional system modules include RIO CPUs (one per CPU) or DIO
interfaces for Modbus Plus networks (two per CPU). Other modules are considered
and configured as I/O modules.
The choice of the appropriate rack depends on the required number of modules for
the system. Racks are available in the following formats: 2, 3, 4, 6, 10 and 16 slots.
If required, communication and network modules can be installed in the local rack.
Most communication and network modules need to be in the local rack. As well as
discrete and analog I/O modules, the following modules are available:

In some applications, the I/O need to be refreshed more quickly than the normal
scan cycle. The Quantum platform provides interrupt services for this type of
application. These services include the incorporation of interrupts on time bases and
on inputs, as well as updating of I/O “on the fly”, thus providing very fast transfer
times, only on the I/O modules in the local rack.
These services are determined by instructions in the instruction set in the Quantum
languages. These instructions can be programmed via the Unity Pro
ProWORX
CPU. Using an segment dedicated to interrupt processing subroutines, it is therefore
possible to use this “on the fly” access either on internal variables, or on outputs of
modules in the local rack.
When configuring a local I/O system, the following four parameters should be
considered:

A local I/O system can have a maximum of 27 available slots (with two 16-slot racks)
for I/O modules, application-specific modules, communication modules and motion
control modules. These modules are powered from the power supply included in the
rack.
To help ensure a valid configuration, simply add together the consumptions (in mA)
of the modules in the rack and check that the total current is less than that provided
by the selected power supply.
Empty modules 140 XCP 500 00 are also available to occupy unused slots.

and 64 output words for I/O addressing on each local rack.
A 16-bit input or output module is equivalent to one word.
Simply add together the addressing requirements of each module and check that the
limit is not exceeded.
