Figure 4.2 shows the actual circuitry for the ISP interface. As you can see its fairly straightforward. Nothing more than the
port header routed to the proper pins and a bypass cap on the power signals.

The PICkit 2 In-circuit Serial Programmer (ISP) has debugging capabilities! However, it
loads a small section of extra code onto your processor called. This will not be an issue
unless you are pushing the limits of memory on the chip. What you gain with the PICkit
2 is full IDE debugging capabilities including: breakpoints, watches, single stepping, call
stack, etc.
