Referring to Figure 7.1, you can see the schematic uses the PIC24HJ128GP502. The chip is very simple to interface, just
power and an external XTAL (which is removable) at 5 MHz. We mentioned that the clock runs at 40 MHz so how can we
possibly be using a 5 MHz XTAL? The answer is that the PIC has an onboard Phase-Locked-Loop (PLL) that can multiply
the incoming clock and increase the rate of execution. Take note of the SPI interface lines on the right, these are very
important since they are used to communicate with the Propeller chip as well as the on board 1MB FLASH.
