CX28500, the HDLC controller, which operates at Layer 2 of OSI, communicates with the physical layer devices—
CX28333 (T3/E3 Line Interface Framer) and eight units of eight DSL modems. The modems are connected to
CX28500’s serial port at the 16 Mbps rate into a PCM highway. CX28500’s first three ports run channelized T3 and
the other 16 ports run at 16 Mbps so that the total port aggregated rate is 260.6 Mbps. The example shows how a
bank of eight modems can be configured by the serial line Control Serial Port (CSP). The CSP port provides the
advantage of a Message Buffer Inter-Processor Control (MBIPC) channel.
