16.3 32-bit Timers (Timers 8 to 4)
16.3.1 Operation
16.3.2 Timer Operating Modes
16.3.2.1
16.3.2.2
DS0200-003
There are five 32-bit reloadable timers on the APB interface. The timers’ features include:
The timers are 32-bit up-counter. Minimum time-out delay is set by loading the value 00000001h into TxR,
and setting the pre-scale value to “1”. Maximum time-out delay is set by loading the value 00000000h into
TxR, and setting the pre-scale value to “4096”. If the timer reaches FFFFFFFFh, it rolls over to 00000000h
and continues counting.
The timers can be configured to operate in one of 4 modes via TxCTL.TMODE.
In this mode, the timer counts from Tx to TxR using hclk. Upon reaching TxR, the timer generates an
interrupt, the count value in Tx resets to 00000001h and the timer is disabled. The steps for configuring this
mode are:
The timer period is given by the following equation:
In this mode, the timer counts from Tx to TxR using hclk. Upon reaching TxR, the timer generates an
interrupt, Tx is reset to 00000001h, and counting resumes. The steps for configuring this mode are:
The timer period is given by the following equation:
If an initial starting value other than 00000001h is loaded into Tx, use the one-shot mode equation to
determine the first time-out period.

Timer interrupt
Clear TxCTL.TEN, write TxCTL.TMODE to “000”, and set TxCTL.PRES.
Write to the Timer register to set the starting count value.
Write to the Timer Compare register to set the Compare value.
If desired, enable the timer interrupt in the Interrupt Controller and set the timer interrupt
priority by writing to the appropriate Configuration Table Register in the Interrupt Controller.
Write to the Timer Control register to enable the timer and initiate counting (TEN = “1”).
Clear TxCTL.TEN, write TxCTL.TMODE to “001”, and set TxCTL.PRES.
Write Tx. This affects the first count. After reaching TxR, the next count begins at 00000001h.
Write TxR.
If desired, enable the timer interrupt in the Interrupt Controller and set the timer interrupt
priority by writing to the appropriate Configuration Table Register in the Interrupt Controller.
Write to the Timer Control register to enable the timer and initiate counting (TEN = “1”).
