illustrates how an MPC8313E can function as an I/O processor in a high-end
printer application.

In this example, the MPC8313E primarily functions as a controller for the main ASIC. The MPC8313E
and the main ASIC connect to the main CPU through a PCI bridge.
The power consumption of high-end MFP systems is significant due to the required top-level processor
performance and high-speed interfaces. In order to reduce the power consumption in stand-by mode, the
MPC8313E as a secondary I/O processor shuts off the power to the main CPU and maintains the system
at very low power. Once the I/O processor detects data transfer through the LAN, USB and PCI or an
interrupt from the push of a button on the panel, it quickly boots up the main CPU.
